Custom Japanese Knife handle (wa handle) - Pau Brasil

This is an octagonal Wa Style Handle made for Japanese style kitchen knives.

The body is made from Pau Brasilia (Pernambuco) with Sonoran desert Ironwood. 

Pau Brasilia Is a rare wood that with amazing acoustic qualities, which makes it highly sought after musical bow making. 

The Portuguese named these trees pau-brasil, the term pau meaning wood, and brasil meaning reddish/ember-like. The South American trees soon dominated the trading as a better source of dye. Such a vigorous trade resulted from the woods that early sailors and merchants started referring to the land itself as Terra do Brasil, or simply, the "Land of Brazil", and from this use the present name of Brazil was derived.

Medium - it is suited for a 240 mm  gyuto or other Japanese knife.

Weight 51g Length 137.5 (5.5”)

Handle is sanded to 600 grit and then coated in 5-6 coats of Tru-Oil.

Use and care - Hand wash and dry - Never put in dishwasher nor leave in hot soapy water.
