Custom Japanese Knife Handle (Wa Handle) - Ringed Gidgee and Ebony

This is an octagonal Wa Style Handle made for Japanese style kitchen knives.

The body is made with Ringed Gidgee with kiln-dried Gabon Ebony and copper. The Gidgee is sourced from salvaged stumps from an eco conscious mate in Australia.

Medium sized, it is suited for a 240 Gyuto or similar. As Gidgee is a dense wood, I keep these a little thinner to help with balance.

widths: 26.3x20.9 tapers to 23x19

Handle is sanded to 800 grit, then coated in 5-6 coats of Tru-Oil.

Care :

  • Handwash with soapy water and towel dry.
  • Do not put in dishwasher, nor soak in water for long periods of time.
  • Oil on a fairly regular basis, or sand with 0000 steel wool and reapply a sealer such as tru-oil as needed.
